From the Editor…
“not for the shy and retiring, maybe, but it’s certainly memorable”
We have a real mixed bag of classic Porsches for you this time around, proving that variety is indeed the spice of life. Our cover car is one which I personally would love to have in my garage: a genuine 1973 2.8 RSR. Bought new by German racer Eugen Kiemele, it was raced for much of its early life before undergoing a sympathetic restoration many years ago. We managed to reunite Eugen with his old race car – it was quite an emotional moment, as you can imagine. Then there’s the crazy 911 ‘Art Car’. How do you grab the attention of race organisers? Try laying on some pop-art graphics, in the style of the famous BMW Art Cars? Not for the shy and retiring, maybe, but it’s certainly memorable! Too ‘in your face’ for you? OK, how about a 763bhp Porsche 959? If that doesn’t make you smile then nothing will. Likewise the beautiful Max Moritz-built 914/6 – I’ve always missed my ‘fourteen-six’ and this hasn’t helped one bit! Want something a little quieter, perhaps? Then Richard King’s subtle 911T, or MJ-Technic’s 356C will do the trick. Event-wise, there’s a report on the amazing Luftgekühlt show, rapidly becoming the ‘must attend’ event on the west coast, and the 2017 Tour Auto. Like I said, a real mixed bag this time around. And there’s plenty more to come, trust me.
